The cost of a translation is influenced by several factors, including the volume of words, the languages involved, the complexity of the topic, the technical level of the language, the urgency of the deadline, the format of the original copies document and the format used for final delivery, and the availability of documents. Each of these elements is taken into account when calculating the quote to ensure an accurate and fair quote.

M21Global prides itself on ensuring the highest quality in every project. Our methodology involves several stages and professionals, including project manager, formatter, glossarist, translator, proofreader and a quality control phase. When an award is made after 5:30 PM, the translation process can only actually begin on the following business day, unless it is an emergency. This approach ensures that each project receives the attention and care needed to deliver high-quality translations.

A company’s specific language and terminology are distinctive elements that reflect its corporate identity and culture. By providing us with reference materials, you are helping us to understand and adopt this unique language, which allows us to ensure that the translations are not only accurate, but also in line with your company’s terminology and style. In this way, we are able to ensure a uniform and coherent translation, which respects and faithfully reflects the language and terms already established by your organisation.

Yes, these terms are often used and all have the same meaning. They all refer to a type of translation that is officially recognised and validated by an authority or qualified professional, guaranteeing its accuracy and authenticity. This translation is generally required for official or legal documents that will be presented to government or judicial entities.

No, in Portugal translators are not sworn. Instead, it is the translations that are sworn, i.e. authenticated or certified. Only interpreters who work in courts take an oath. Unlike other countries, Portugal does not have “certified translators”. Certified translations are signed by a translator, and this signature is later certified by a solicitor or notary.

To request an official or authenticated translation, follow the steps below:

  1. Scan the document you want to translate and send it by email or using the form available on our website. If you don’t have a scanner, you can use your phone camera to photograph the documents and send them by email.
  2. Indicate the target language of the translation, mention whether you need authentication and/or the Hague Apostille and let us know if you have a specific deadline.
  3. After we receive your request, we will provide you with a detailed quote, presenting two deadline options: standard and reduced, along with their respective prices.
  4. If you prefer, you can deliver the documents directly to our offices and get the quote immediately. Alternatively, you can send them by registered mail.
  5. It is essential that you provide us with the original document or a certified photocopy of the document up to 2 working days before the end of the established deadline, otherwise there is a risk of the delivery of the translated document being delayed.
  6. This procedure ensures that the translation is officially recognised and has legal validity, thus being accepted by entities and institutions that require such authentication.

We translate and certify translations for all countries that are signatories to the Hague Convention. The main languages for which we offer this service include: Spanish, French, English, Portuguese, Italian, German, Dutch, Swedish, Greek and Arabic, among others.

A translation certified in Portugal, intended for exclusive use in the country, consists of:

  1. The original document or text in the source language.
  2. The translation of the text into the target language.
  3. A statement signed by the translator, whose signature is certified by a solicitor or notary, attesting that the translation is faithful to the original document.
  4. If your destination is a foreign country, you will add a cover page sealed with the Hague Apostille.

Yes, you can, as long as a certified photocopy is used for the list of documents mentioned above, rather than the original document. It is important to understand that the certified translation includes all the documents mentioned in the previous paragraph and none of them can be removed, otherwise the translation loses its validity. If you anticipate that you will need the original document for other purposes in the future, do not hand it in for translation. Instead, provide a certified photocopy or, if you prefer, we can arrange for it to be certified. Documents such as Birth Certificates, Diplomas, medical certificates and others that are difficult to obtain or have a high cost to issue must be retained.

In short, keep documents that are difficult or expensive to replace.

The Hague Apostille is a certificate that validates the signatures, seals or stamps on a public document, issued by a country’s competent authority. It functions as an authentication of a photocopy or signature recognition, certifying that the signature, seal or stamp on the document was issued by a public official in their official capacity. The main purpose of the Apostille is to ensure that a public document from one country is recognised in a foreign country. Thus, the Hague Apostille recognises that the act performed in Portugal by a solicitor when certifying a translation is a valid public act. Therefore, a translation certified in Portugal is accepted in all signatory countries of the convention.
To find out if the entity for which your certified translation is intended requires the Hague Apostille, it is essential to contact the entity directly and ask about the formalities required for certified document translations. Not all entities require the Apostille, and, in rare cases, some entities in countries that are signatories to the Hague Convention may not accept translations with the Apostille.
For a complete list of countries that accept the Hague Apostille, you can consult the official website of the Hague Convention at: www.hcch.net/pt/instruments/conventions/authorities1/?cid=41.
